The Queensland College of Teachers is responsible to the Minister for the registration of persons entitled to be registered as teachers under the Education (Teacher Registration) Act 1988; keeping teacher registration in Queensland under continuous review, and making reports and recommendations to the Minister thereon; conferring and collaborating with employing authorities, teacher education institutions, the teaching profession, teacher organisations and the general community in relation to the standards of courses of teacher education acceptable for the purpose of teacher registration.
