CRCMining’s challenge is to reduce energy consumption at all stages of mining. Mining is a significant consumer of energy, accounting for 4.7% of Australia’s primary energy, and 13.8% of CO2-equivalent emissions. CRCMining’s activities will focus on technologies associated with mining processes – in rock fragmentation, digging and transport. Automation of technologies will deliver benefits by improving the efficiency of digging and haulage and by providing improved ore grade control at the point of excavation.
